Weekly Photo Challenge: Pattern

I will sometimes create patterns with my Microsoft Photodraw under Distort and kaleidoscope. I will lock in the effect to add the next one as well as placing any other designer effect to enhance as desired. The above are some examples with the caption of what they were originally. The bottom galleries show how these effects were placed and the results.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Culture

I am of part Native American decent but have never shown much interest in any of my heritage, due to I am from many people, a real mutt, an American.

I believe my green thumb and love of nature comes from the indigenous blood flowing inside of me.  I would spend most of my time as a child in fields catching snakes and tadpoles, picking wild berries in spring and hazelnuts in the fall.  I was taught about wild plants and would actually forage meals of nuts and berries where I lived many years ago.  My father taught me to hunt and fish with respect to nature and the animals and I was actually given a knife to use when I was very young after given instructions on how to use it properly and safely.  I used to think of myself as the “herb lady” but as you can tell from my blog, this kind of got away from me.  I do only grow organic and still grow some herbs.  Many died when I had my Akita who loved to pee on anything green.  I think my large silver sage died of natural causes as they usually do.

Enhanced pictures taken from one of the Powwow’s held in Tecumseh Michigan years ago.  I usually don’t take pictures but took a few of this one.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Change

Forget me nots
Forget me nots

This truly is a post dedicated to change. I changed my Internet Explorer to 10 and was not able to access any photos in my library to insert into my posts. I just “changed” it back to 9 by deleting Internet Explorer from my recent upgraded programs on Windows 7 and voila’! So if any of you are having this problem, you can switch back only if you are still under the Windows 7 operating system.

Keep it simple, but real.

Weekly Photo Challenge: My Neighborhood got Lost in the Details

Really poking the last couple of weeks and not only has my neighborhood become lost in the details, but so has my brains because I swore I would not miss one of these challenges!

Since the “details” is fog, due to a very chilly and damp March so far, I have decided to upload some early spring flowers that I look in 2012 at the same time this year.  There are absolutely no early spring flowers here yet, but dare to dream!

I still have much to do and will update after I feel there is something more to show.  I like to use photo transfers from my inkjet printer on all kinds of paper and cloth.  Computer software is great for making all kinds of special effects to customize your mixed media art.  I usually make a transfer off of construction paper or vellum due to the thickness of the paper.  I will just affix any pictures printed onto tracing paper with the paper, inkside down.  You have to be very careful when you are working with inkjet photos instead of laserjet, because they smear worse.  I always apply the medium to the canvas or the board and then affix the picture ink side down carefully in place so you don’t have to move it.  Then you are free to add additional medium to the top and edges to firm in place without any fear it will smear.

I know that I will be adding additional paint and perhaps stamping techniques, maybe even covering up some of the images that are already on the canvas.  I will sometimes work something over so much that it is no longer recognizable from the first creation.  Like any artist, I just keep working until I feel it is complete.  I do plan on adding more mixed media hardware and fabric as well.

More to come.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Home

Some squirrels have made themselves at “home” in a tree in my backyard.  I could tell by the insulation that we would be in for a cold winter.

Apparently they raided my neighbors patio cushions and pulled out the stuffing to insulate it.  So stylish & cozy!
